METHOD
How does the podiatrist work?
After the intake interview, an extensive investigation follows. This examination takes place in both sitting and standing, after which the gait pattern is analyzed. The investigation will clarify the possible mutual relationship of factors relating to the complaint(s). Based on this information, the cause of the foot complaint(s) can then be deduced.
Based on the information now obtained, the podiatrist can decide in which form of therapy is required. The therapy will usually be in the form of an orthosis or a pair of podiatric insoles, the method of which is further explained below.
Measuring podiatric soles using 3D CAD-CAM system
When fitting podiatric insoles, the 3-dimensional CAD-CAM scanning equipment makes it possible to produce very accurate corrective insoles. This not only maps the width, length and pressure distribution of the feet, but also the individual foot height. A scan can also be made using a foam box.
Because the sole of the foot has been scanned in 3-D, the precise heights of the sole of the foot are mapped. The corrections are then applied to a virtual sole, taking the exact foot shape into account.
All custom podiatric insoles are manufactured in-house by the podiatrists themselves.
Ultimately, all data is sent to a milling machine that produces an extremely accurate podiatric sole as a final product. The use of the scanning system guarantees the functionality and low tolerance level of the soles.
The computer calculates the patient's footbed exactly, i.e. 100% accurately, and after virtually applying elements, mills out the corrective, compensatory and/or pressure-distributing soles. There will therefore be no standard corrective elements that are manufactured in the soles, since no two feet are the same. The method is not only accurate, but also patient-friendly. The patient is explained verbally and visually what the cause of the complaint is and how the cause will be addressed.
